Bell Nunnally Partners with DVAP to Host Pro Bono Clinic in Dallas for Austin Street Center Shelter Residents

24 Apr 2023 North America

On February 24, Bell Nunnally’s pro bono program partnered with the Austin Street Center and the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program (DVAP) to provide a pro bono clinic for the shelter’s clients. Six Bell Nunnally attorneys, partners Jarod T. Moss, Saba S. Syed and Tammy S. Wood and associates Carlos E. Alferez, Kimberly A. Cruz and Vikram O. Kadiri, participated providing legal counsel to 29 center residents.

Bell Nunnally’s involvement with Austin Street Center and DVAP is led by Partner Benjamin L. Riemer, Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. The event was covered in a recent “P.S.” column on Texas Lawbook with Riemer quoted, “Like many issues facing people who are on the edge between homelessness and stable housing, something seemingly small and simple can be the difference between being homeless and being housed.”

For more than 30 years, Austin Street Center has been caring for the most vulnerable homeless men and women of Dallas. They are the largest low barrier shelter in the city with the goal of helping their clients transition from homelessness to independence.

DVAP is a program aimed at training and supporting volunteer attorneys to increase and enhance pro bono legal services to the poor in Dallas. DVAP volunteers provide advice and full representation in a variety of cases including, family, housing, landlord-tenant, real property, consumer, wills, expunctions and non-disclosures, probate and more.
