Operations of the court systems

Oaths, Affirmations and Declarations

Public Counters are closed until further notice; however it remains possible for a member of our staff to take an oath, affirmation or declaration.

Jury Trials

In line with the current advice issued in England and Wales, it has been decided that contingency measures to protect the judiciary, jurors and others involved in jury trials will be introduced. Accordingly, all jury trials listed for more than 3 days will be temporarily postponed until there is more certainty around the current situation.

Civil and Family matters

The increased use of technology will be encouraged where possible in all civil and family matters, including appeals. Matters will be dealt with on a case by case basis with the court looking favourably on parties seeking matters to be stayed.

The fee for the filing of matters that can be dealt with by agreement between the parties (a Consent Order) will be temporarily waived until further notice.

Criminal matters

Live link procedures will be used as often as the current legislation allows. The Courts are working with their Justice partners to establish the extent to which new legislative provisions can be utilised to significantly increase the circumstances under which video and audio links can be used in court proceedings.
