Trade and Competition Law

Mission Statement:

This practice group is made up of experts in the regulation of markets, the movement of goods and services across borders and cross border contracting. The way companies behave in markets is controlled through anti trust (US) or competition (EU) rules which in general prohibit collusion to divide markets and fix prices or to abuse dominant market positions. In Europe, there is particular emphasis on the distortion of competition through the granting of government subsidies. Markets themselves are regulated in a variety of ways from basic contract law to the protection of consumers. More and more specific market sectors such as telecommunications or health services or financial services are heavily regulated and controlled by public and semi public authorities. The SIG also focuses on the regulation of the movement of goods, services and capital from one market to another. Thus we look at trade law, customs, market access, WTO, subsidies, dumping and safeguards.

Our goal as a practice group is to share the experience of lawyers practicing in different jurisdictions. We are all solving problems everyday. Each of us does it in a slightly different way. We believe that by sharing our experiences we all become better professionals.
